The method involves marking the extrusion (15) with longitudinal marks (17) before clamping it in the machine (10). The section (16) of the extrusion after the bend is scanned for the markings and a measurement series (18) determined for four reference directions. The measurement series pass to an evaluation unit (19) where they are compared with the desired values to form a difference series (20) for a single reference direction. This series passes to a controller where it is converted to a correction series (22) which is used to control the bending machine by adjusting the bending tool (13).
