DIAMOND SURGICAL BLADE

Surgical blades, knives and keratotomy procedures are provided which enable combined Russian and American techniques within each radial incision. The blades of this invention include an elongated crystalline gemstone having proximal and distal ends, front and back opposing planar surfaces and first and second longitudinal sides. The distal end of the gemstone includes first and second cutting edges (32, 34) extending distally from the first and second longitudinal sides and joined to form a sharp apex for piercing into a cornea, or the like. The second edge is shorter than the length of the first cutting edge and includes a cutting depth of less than about .5 mm, or within the critical range beginning at about .120 mm.
