摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more reliably improve fuel consumption by setting a compression ratio to be higher even when a mixture has a greater average air-fuel ratio as a whole in a cylinder bore such as during low load of an internal combustion engine, and the mixture is lean on average. <P>SOLUTION: An intake passage 15 is formed on one side portion of a cylinder head 6 in the side view of a cylinder 2. A fuel injection valve 45 is provided for injecting fuel 44 from the end of one side portion of the cylinder head 6 obliquely downward into a cylinder bore 4. An ignition plug 47 is provided approximately on the axial center 3 of the cylinder bore 4 with a discharge portion 46 facing into the cylinder bore 4. The fuel 44 when injected by the fuel injection valve 45 is in a truncated chevron shape across the discharge portion 46 in the top view of the cylinder 2, and the fuel 44 is injected by the fuel injection valve 45 in an intake stroke. The fuel 44 when injected in the truncated chevron shape across the discharge portion 46 in the top view of the cylinder 2 is almost symmetrical with the discharge portion 46 as a base. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
