PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water paint composition little in the resin elusion amount after retort treatment, easy in wastewater disposal, and capable of forming a film excellent in coating-workability, processibility, adhesion, and scuffing resistance, which film has high hardness hardly injured in a transport step after retort treatment. SOLUTION: The water paint composition contains in the total of the constituting monomer ingredients, a carboxy-containing vinyl copolymer resin (A) and a crosslinking agent (B) comprising an amino resin (b1) having a triazine nucleus structure having <1 mol imino group per 1 mol triazine nucleus and an oxazoline-containing compound (b2) having≥1,500 but <40,000 number-average molecular weight.
