PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a surface-treated fine org. or inorg. powder which has been surface-treated so that it can be homogeneously dispersed as primary particles in a matrix and hence can exhibit its characteristics to the max. SOLUTION: The fine powder having an average primary particle size of 0.01-3.0μm is made homogeneously dispersible as primary particles in a matrix by treating the surface of the powder with a polypeptide being a biopolymer. The polypeptide is comprehensively a polyfunctional substance not only in terms of physicochemical properties but also in terms of molecular structure, molecular shape, molecular size, etc., and is a surface-treating agent very effective for preventing flocculation of a fine powder or for enhancing the compatibilty with a matrix whereas a conventional surface-treating agent is used for a single purpose (e.g. for imparting hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties or antistatic properties).
