An ultrasonic probe is composed of a beam having a fixed end and a free end, with an ultrasonic transceiver mounted on the free end. A driving mechanism is used to move said ultrasonic transceiver to one or more predetermined positions by applying an electromagnetic force on the beam.

1. An ultrasonic probe for performing a scan on the eye of a patient comprising:
an ultrasonic transceiver assembly generating selective sound pulses; a beam having one end supporting said ultrasonic transducer assembly and being supported at a support point, said beam having a natural resonant frequency; and; a driving mechanism driving said beam in a reciprocating motion at a driving frequency differing from said natural resonant frequency by at least one order of magnitude.
