A metal nitriding method is provided to suppress the formation of oxide film when forming a nitride layer by supplying a mixture gas of nitrogen(N2), ammonia(NH3) and LPG(Liquefied Propane Gas) into a furnace and removing oxygen remaining in the furnace and the moisture infiltrating in washed metal material rapidly. A metal nitriding method in which white buffing of nitrided metal is facilitated includes a pre-heating process and a nitridind process. In the pre-heating process, a mixture gas of nitrogen(N2), ammonia(NH3) and LPG(Liquefied Propane Gas) is supplied into a furnace. The composition ratio of nitrogen, ammonia and LPG in the mixture gas is 1:1:1. The flow rate of the supplied mixture gas is 4.5~5.5m^3(gas)/m^3(furnace).hour.
