The rapid-acting clamp may be used in a workshop. It may be used to fasten a workpiece to edge of a worktable (5) and has a sliding member (1) which extends into a slot in the thickness of the table-top. There is a holding member (4) inside the table-top and the sliding member may slide in and out freely when not subjected to side loading. A crossbar (2) is rigidly connected to the end of the sliding member (1) and extends at 90 deg. to it. A threaded bore in the end of this crossbar accommodates a screw (3) bearing the clamping member and a handle.
