PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endless moving member detection device that can accurately detect the amount of displacement of an endless moving member.SOLUTION: An endless moving member detection device 1 comprises an area sensor 7, image pattern acquisition means 9, speed calculation means 12, timing generation means 11, and orthogonal movement calculation means 13. Image information on an image pattern P at a home position of an intermediate transfer belt 2, the image information acquired on the basis of a timing of acquisition from the timing generation means 11, is stored in a memory.
