PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle with a variable power engine, and its power control method with which both can bring out the full performance of the satisfactory variable power engine and offer proper driveable properties. SOLUTION: A controller 75 receives a speed range signal from a speed range detecting mechanism 31 annexed with a transmission 30, a lockup status signal from a lockup detecting mechanism 71 related to a torque converter 70 and a wheel drive state detection signal from a wheel drive state detecting mechanism 81 related to a wheel drive state changing mechanism 80, and outputs a power changing signal to an engine power changeover device 90. If the speed range is higher than a prescribed range, the engine power is controlled into a higher power side. When lockup is triggered, the engine power is controlled into the higher power side with the speed range shifted to a higher range. With increase in number of driving wheels, the engine power is changed to a higher power side with the speed range which is lower than that selected before the increase. |
