METHOD AND COMPOSITION BASED ON INHIBITION OF BONE GROWTH BY ANIONIC POLYMER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition capable of effectively inhibiting bone growth associated with surgery in mammals such as human beings, and further to provide a method for producing the composition. SOLUTION: A biocompatible anionic polymer is applied to a site having fears of fibrosis, scar formation, and surgical adhesions. The anionic polymer is selected from a dextran sulfate, an alginate and a pentosan polysulphate. They are administered by using a natural collagen, a modified collagen or a dextran as a carrier. The anionic polymer can effectively inhibit the cell invasion and bone growth associated with a detrimental healing process. The effectiveness of the anionic polymer correlates with the anionic charge density.
