PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically and selectively heat a region having a high usage frequency and achieve an efficiently heated condition although there are regions used or not used on a roasting plate depending on the number of persons and a difference in eating speed among persons when enjoying meals around a cooking roaster such as a hot plate. SOLUTION: A plurality of heating regions 1-1 to 1-4 are set on one roasting plate and heaters are arranged on the respective heating regions. Optical sensor 3 are arranged on the outsides of the roasting plate, corresponding to the heating regions. Usage frequencies are determined by detecting hands reaching the roasting plate and currents to the heaters in the heating regions are controlled in according therewith. The heater is controlled to strongly heat the heating region having the high usage frequency with ON/OFF of the current or the change of an output and an empty roast phenomenon on the roasting plate is avoided by restraining the heat of the heating region having the low usage frequency.
