PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flicker filter having adaptability to be adjusted to the image contents of all types. SOLUTION: A flicker is removed from the display image by storing a digital luminous value in a compressed format. It is carried out by using a disapproved luminous value clipped from the luminous value of a certain range, and then encoding a bit corresponding to a bit omitted from the run length of the same value of a cut-off luminous value. A correction value is extracted from a filter transfer function calculated by totaling a increment and the maximum change in the luminance of a certain range. This gives a continuous piecewise linear secondary transfer function which generates another image artifact. A correction factor by the transfer function can be freely adjusted so as to be adapted for various scanning standards and display refresh rates. |
