PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a side-reinforcing rubber layer, the composition enabling fracture strength, low heat generating property, run-flat performance and low fuel economy property to be enhanced, and to provide a run flat tire having a side-reinforcing rubber layer using the composition. SOLUTION: The rubber composition for a side-reinforcing rubber layer contains a rubber component containing deproteinized natural rubber having a total nitrogen content of not more than 0.3 wt.%, as an index of proteins.
