A method for the treatment of returnable material containing laboratory waste for recovery of its raw material. In this method the laboratory waste is contained in intermediate storage capsules made from a material which on contact with water or some other disinfection agent is dissolved and releases the laboratory waste 18 for disinfection. Thereafter the laboratory waste 18 is carried via a silo 7 to a crusher 8 for the purpose of forming, from the laboratory waste 18, particles of the desired size for reuse. <IMAGE>
