PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method for measuring a bulk density of filling particles incorporable into a manufacturing process of a sintered metal component, capable of measuring accurately the bulk density of the filling particles before filling the metal particles into a die and pressing them or the like, thereby detecting fluctuation of the bulk density before pressure molding, and heightening an yield of the sintered metal component. SOLUTION: This bulk density measuring device of the filling particles 2' filled closely in a container 12 having an opened upper part, and having a horizontal upper surface 1 is equipped with an elongate needle-shaped rod 14 extending vertically to the upper surface of the filling particles, having a fixed sectional shape, and having a tapered part whose sectional size is reduced gradually toward the downside on the lower end; a frictional force detection device 16 for gripping an upper part or a middle part of the needle-shaped rod, pushing down the part at fixed speed from the upper surface of the filling particles to a prescribed depth, and detecting an upward frictional force applied to the needle-shaped rod; and a bulk density determination device 18 for determining the bulk density of the filling particles from the frictional force.
