PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traction drive device of compact structure capable of efficiently transmitting large torque. SOLUTION: A traction drive type continuously variable transmission is structured of a first shaft 7 as an input shaft or an output shaft rotatably supported by a casing 10, a pair of pulley members 4 supported by the first shaft 7 and formed with a V-shape groove having variable groove width, a second shaft 6 as the output shaft or the input shaft rotatably supported by the casing 10, a ring 3 engaged with the pulley members 4 and the second shaft 6 to transmit torque between the first and the second shafts, an arm mechanism 32 for moving the ring 3 around the second shaft 6, and a pushing mechanism (extension coil spring 38) for applying the force for pushing the ring to the pulley members to the arm mechanism 32.
