ENZYMATIC PROCESS FOR PRODUCTION OF 4-SUBSTITUTED 3-HYDROXYBUTYRIC ACID DERIVATIVE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods for preparing 4-substituted 3-hydroxybutyric acid derivatives by halohydrin dehalogenase-catalyzed conversion of 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyric acid derivatives, and to provide a composition.

SOLUTION: The invention provides methods and compositions for preparing 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyric acid derivatives by ketoreductase-catalyzed conversion of 4-halo-3-ketobutyric acid derivatives. The methods include a step of feeding a 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyric acid ester, and a step of contacting the 4-halo-3-hydroxybutyric acid ester with a halohydrin dehalogenase and a cyanide.
