The method involves detecting contour zones of a two dimensional digital image, and determining the size, in number of pixels, of each contour zone by a determining unit (MD) along horizontal axis and vertical axis. Each contour zone is zoomed using different zooming algorithms e.g. bilinear algorithm and spleen interpolation algorithm, which are chosen based on the size of each contour zone. The zoomed contour zone of the image is displayed on a display device e.g. plasma display. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for processing a two dimensional digital image comprising a contour zone (2) a display system e.g. plasma display, comprising a digital image processing device.
