PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization direction detector which can detect intensity of specific polarized light made incident on at least one pixel region of an imaging element and to provide an imaging apparatus capable of image processing using the information. SOLUTION: The polarization direction detector comprises an imaging element 12 which is disposed at an image plane of an objective lens 11 for condensing light from an object and which images an object image, a light receiving element 12 which has a plurality of sensitivity anisotropy to a polarization direction of incident light in an image angle of the objective lens, a polarization direction computing section which computes the polarization direction of incident light from detected information of the light receiving element and an image processing section which processes the image of the object photographed by the imaging element.
