PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of stably achieving high-accurate image adjusting processing, irrespective of deterioration in image forming characteristics. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus forms gradation patterns on a sheet and executes predetermined image quality adjustment processing on the basis of the printing status of the formed gradation patterns. The apparatus has a variation information acquiring section for acquiring information about the variation of the predetermined characteristics influencing the image quality of an output image, and a control section for forming gradation patterns setting a pattern interval of each of density regions on a sheet on the basis of the information acquired by the variation information acquiring section.
