<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting element for improving light extraction efficiency. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting element includes a conductive support substrate 1 disposed on an opposite side to a light emission surface 11 and a nitride based semiconductor device layer 9 having a side face 9a slanted at a predetermined angle to the surface 11.
