This powder for negative electrode material in a lithium ion secondary cell contains a silicon oxide powder having a carbon coating, has as a whole an average composition, expressed as a molar ratio, of Si:O=1:x (0.5 ≦̸ x ≦̸ 1.5), has a volume median diameter D50 fulfilling the relation 0.5μm ≦̸ D50 ≦̸ 10μm, and has an angle of repose of 40-50°. When used as the negative electrode material in a lithium ion secondary cell, this powder can improve cycle characteristics of the cell. In this powder for a negative electrode material, the ratio of carbon in the makeup of the aforementioned carbon coating is preferably 0.5-7.0 mass%. |
