PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eddy current brake system for a railway that balances interphase voltages or ring-winding type coils, suppresses the temperature rise of rails, and can be used as an emergency brake using a reserved DC power supply at the time of abnormality of a feeder. SOLUTION: The eddy current brake system, which causes an eddy current to be generated in rails by the ring-winding type coils 2 mounted on a railway car, comprises a three-phase AC power source by the feeder as a supply power to the coils 2 and a DC power source mounted on the railway car. When the feeder is normal, a three-phase AC current is supplied to the coils 2, while, when the feeder abnormal, a DC current is supplied to the coil 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
