<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microporous film having a high film rupture temperature and a good balance among permeability, puncture strength, electric resistance of the film, and a thermal shrinkage rate. <P>SOLUTION: The microporous film is composed of a thermoplastic resin composition containing 5-90 pts.mass of (b) a polyphenylene ether resin to 100 pts.mass of (a) a polypropylene resin. The microporous film has a sea-island structure comprising a sea part containing the polypropylene resin as a principal component and island parts containig the polyphenylene ether resin as a principal component.
