A spinner (65) rotationally forms a threaded connection (3) between the joints (1,2) of a large diameter conductor piping at an initial make-up torque. A rotary grip head has a pair of straps for gripping one of the joints of the conductor piping. The grip head applies a final make-up torque to the threaded connection. The conductor torquing apparatus (10) has a fixed grip head having a pair of straps for gripping one joint of the conductor piping. Number of movable arms (50) applies a retaining force to the other joint of the conductor piping to maintain the joint in rotational contact with the drive wheels (68) on the spinner. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) a jointed pipe making method; and (b) a jointed pipe breaking out method. |
