PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active energy ray-curable resin composition which can give cured coating films high in surface hardness, little in curing contraction and excellent in adhesiveness to supports, to provide a coating comprising the composition, and to provide a method for forming a protective layer using the coating. SOLUTION: This active energy ray-curable resin composition comprises a urethane (meth)acrylate prepared by reacting norbornane diisocyanate (a1), pentaerythritol tri(meth)acrylate (a2) and tris-2-hydroxyethyl isocyanurate di(meth)acrylate (a3), wherein the urethane (meth)acrylate is a urethane (meth)acrylate (A) obtained by using (a2 ) and (a3) in a weight ratio of 70/30 to 30/70. The coating comprises the composition. The method for forming the protective layer comprises coating a support with the coating to form the layer of the coating on the support, and then irradiating the layer of the coating with active energy ray.
