<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object tracking apparatus which accurately tracks a target object, even when similar objects of the target object exist around the target object. <P>SOLUTION: The object tracking apparatus includes a state determining unit 31, which determines a tracking state, based on a positional relation between a target object and a similar object having the same features with the target object in a previous frame of the current frame; an object search unit 33, which locates the target object in the current frame; and a vicinity search unit 37, which locates the similar object in the current frame when the similar object exists in the vicinity of the target object. If the tracking state is "overlapping", an object predicting unit 41 locates the target object by predicting the location of the target object in the current frame, based on the location of the target object and kinetic state of the target object in the previous frame.
