<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide one means for generating truly random output values though the generation of the truly random output values is difficult. <P>SOLUTION: A circuit (5) for generating the truly random output values is provided that comprises: a bistable circuit (30) having two stable states in which a 0 or 11 is output and having a balanced metastable state in which a floating value between 0 and 1 is output, the bistable circuit (30) resolving from the metastable state to one of the stable states on being switched on, the state depending on a voltage level at a port on the bistable circuit (30); a voltage level control circuit (80) for controlling a voltage level at the port on the bistable circuit (30); a time measuring circuit (50) for measuring a switching time taken for the bistable circuit to switch from the metastable state to one of the stable states following switch on; and control logic being adapted to perform a sequence of outputting the random output values. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
