摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low power consumption type image reader capable of reducing the characteristic change of a point light source and capable of obtaining an excellent image by irradiating an original by stable light quantity and stable spectrum, and to provide an image forming apparatus. SOLUTION: Respective detection terminals of temperature detection sensors S1, S2 and S3 directly come into contact with a mounting soldering part 30 of an LED element 6a. A cooling fan 20a is ON/OFF controlled based on detected temperature from the temperature detection sensor S1. A control part (CPU) determines whether the temperature of the mounting soldering part 30 of the LED element 6a detected by the temperature detection sensor S1 is equal to or higher than predetermined temperature. When it is equal to or lower than the predetermined temperature, a cooling fan 20a is driven to be rotated, and when it is equal to or lower than the predetermined temperature, the cooling fan 20a is not driven. A cooling fan 20b is ON/OFF controlled based on detected temperature from the temperature detection sensor S2, and a cooling fan 20c is ON/OFF controlled based on detected temperature from the temperature detection sensor S3.
