<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable communication device and information provider for appropriately providing a user with useful information around each station of a route covered by a commuter pass only by passing a ticket gate without performing complicated operation. <P>SOLUTION: The portable communication device first monitors a non-contact type IC having a commuter pass function and acquires a boarding station and current time when the user passes a ticket gate machine. Next, a time table DB is referred to, arrival times of all the way stations before the destination of the commuter pass are estimated on the basis of the current time and the boarding station, and all the stops and arrival times are transmitted to the information provider. In the information provider, information around all the stations is acquired by referring to a station information DB and transmitted to the requesting portable communication device. In the portable communication device, the received information around the way station is displayed.
