PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple coating method by which a stable spotted pattern is applied on an existing wall surface in a construction site while turning an uneven pattern on the wall surface to practical use. SOLUTION: In the coating method of applying an upper coating material on the wall surface having joint pattern formed by a liner recessed part and coated to have a different color between the linear recessed part and a part except the linear recessed part, the upper coating material containing a colored coating material dispersed material obtained by dispersing a colored water based coating material (1) containing a synthetic resin emulsion (a), a gel forming material (b) and coloring pigment (c) into a water based dispersion medium (II) containing a synthetic resin emulsion (a') and a gelating agent (d) is used.
