The method involves using a thermoelectric pump with Peltier elements forming a hollow cylinder for single- or multiple-stage distillative fractionating of fuel for operating an internal combustion engine during cold starting. At least one fuel line supplies an evaporation chamber with fuel. Outlets for easily and less easily evaporated condensate are arranged in the condensation and evaporation chamber housing floors respectively.
