An electronic cigarette 10 comprising a housing 12 including a battery compartment 40, and a rechargeable battery 18 located within, wherein the battery comprises two end surfaces 52 located along a central axis 48 and a peripheral surface 44 connecting the end surfaces, wherein the battery terminals are arranged on at least one of the end surfaces, and a holding member biased against the peripheral surface of the battery and adapted to secure the battery inside the battery compartment regardless of its change in size. The holding member may comprise an elastic material such as a spring. The holding member may be formed as a flap cut out of the wall of the battery compartment and may comprise a contact portion adapted to contact the battery wherein the contact portion is complementary to the surface of the battery. The holding member may be of a length of at least 25% of the length of the peripheral surface, and may arranged as a single member to contact the middle of the peripheral surface, or be formed of a plurality of members spaced along the lateral extent of the battery compartment. |
