A number of matrix type images (3) of an object (1) are recorded and stored in memory. Each image point is assigned a 3-D coordinate value where for each limited image area a number of points from two planes are combined relative to a coordinate plane to obtain a resultant digital image with maximum contrast values taken from one or other of the two combined image recordings. An Independent claim is made for a device for recording a digital image with a fixed depth of focus of a spatial object.
