A driving apparatus of a plasma display panel and a driving method thereof are provided to reduce the number of switching elements by using a MOSFET in a scan drive IC as a part of an energy recovery path instead of switches in the energy recovery path. A driving apparatus of a plasma display panel includes a scan drive IC(41), a first energy recovery circuit(44), and a second energy recovery circuit(45). The scan drive IC is composed of first and second switches(S1,S2) forming a path for supplying voltage wave form to a first electrode. The first energy recovery circuit forms a closed loop with capacitance load and the first switch while the voltage of the first electrode rises to a second voltage from a first voltage. The second energy recovery circuit forms a closed loop with capacitance load and the second switch while the voltage of the first electrode falls to the first voltage from the second voltage.
