PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a lead acid storage battery that can prevent infiltration short-circuit of the lead storage battery.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a lead acid storage battery comprises (a) a step of arranging an electrode plate group 30 having a positive electrode plate 31 and a negative electrode plate 33 in a battery box, (b) a step of pouring electrolyte solution into the battery box, and (c) a step of electrically conducting the positive electrode plate 31 and the negative electrode plate 33 in the battery box. The distance D between the positive electrode plate 31 and the negative electrode plate 33 is in the range from not less than 0.5 mm to not more than 1.3 mm. Further, during the (b) step and during the (c) step, the temperature in the battery box is kept in the range from not less than -5°C to not more than 15°C until the rate of PbOin the positive electrode active material of the positive electrode plate 31 is equal to 60 mass% or more in the (c) step. As described above, by suppressing the temperature increase of the battery in the liquid pouring step of the electrolyte solution and the battery box formation step, the lead sulfate of the positive electrode plate and negative electrode plate can be suppressed from elute as Pband infiltration short-circuiting can be prevented.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
