PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improved methods of providing extensive data for a computer system.SOLUTION: A method of providing at least one data carrier for a computer system is provided that includes: downloading an image 46 relating to a data carrier from a predetermined network source by means of a service processor 4 of the computer system, the service processor being operable independently of a main processor 3 and an operating system 15 of the computer system; storing, by means of the service processor 4, the downloaded image 46 into a non-volatile bulk memory; incorporating, by means of the service processor 4, the stored image 46 as active data carrier of a virtual memory drive; and emulating a standard interface that accesses the virtual memory drive such that an operating system 15 can access the active data carrier without manufacturer-specific driver software.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
