PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized planetary gear type multi-stage transmission, attaining a change gear ratio in a large range and performing suitable forward 7-speed or more in a change gear ratio step. SOLUTION: A first shaft 82 is connected to an input shaft 16, a second shaft 20 is provided parallel to the first shaft 82, a first planetary gear device 30 is disposed on the first shaft 18, third and fourth planetary gear devices 40, 42 are disposed on the second shaft 20, power transmission between the first shaft 18 and the second shaft 20 is performed by at least one of two sets of paired counter gears 26, 28. A sun gear, a carrier and a ring gear of the third planetary gear device 40 and the fourth planetary gear device 42 are partly connected to each other to constitute four rotating elements, and the four rotating elements are selectively connected to the first paired counter gears 26, the second paired counter gears 26, the output rotating member or the non-rotating member through a clutch or brakes, thereby selectively switching the clutch and the brakes between the engagement state and the release state.
