PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commutator which can be made compact in the axial direction while facilitating manufacture. SOLUTION: The commutator 21 has a planar holding portion 24, a plurality of segments 22 arranged radially at one end of the holding portion 24 and having a sliding surface 31a intersecting the plate thickness direction of the holding portion 24 perpendicularly, and a member for short-circuiting the segments 22 having the same potential. The short circuit member comprises one group of planar short circuit structural components having a plurality of outer circumferential side terminals, a plurality of inner circumferential side terminals, and a plurality of portions for coupling the outer circumferential side terminals and the inner circumferential side terminals while shifting them entirely in the same circumferential direction by a predetermined angle. The segment 22 has an outer circumferential side joint 33 to which the outer circumferential side terminal and the radial outside end portion 19b of an armature coil are connected at the outer circumferential end thereof, and has an inner circumferential side joint 32 to which the inner circumferential side terminal and the radial inside end portion 19a of an armature coil are connected at the inner circumferential end thereof.
