PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a map display system capable of displaying guide information that a user desires in an easy-to-see form. SOLUTION: A map display system 10 comprises a map display device 20 and a map distributing device 30. An icon database 38 of the map distributing device 30 stores data of animated icons corresponding to node property information, and distributes map data that the map display device 20 requests and an icon corresponding to property of a node where a moving means changes according to property information of the node as a guide pointer to the map display device 20, which includes a display unit 23 displaying a map and displays a map on the display unit 23 and also animates and displays the icon corresponding to the guide point based upon the map data and guide point received from the map distributing device 20. When the guide point is an automobile getting-on place or automobile getting-off place, an icon is animated and displayed such that an animation character gets on or off an automobile.
