Gearchange system for bicycle

To produce a bicycle gearing system, a first set of gearwheels (3-5) are keyed firmly to e.g. the axle carrying the pedals (1). The first set of gearwheels are in permanent mesh with a second set of rotating gearwheels (10-12) on a second axle, parallel to the first. Each of the second set of gears may be locked to the second axle as required by a gear shift mechanism. The pedal power exerted on the pedals is transmitted to the chain wheel (7) via one of the pairs of gears and the chain transmits the drive forces to the rear wheel. The gearing may give a gear reduction suitable for fast cycling.
