PURPOSE: A method for initializing a mobile terminal is provided to limit a cell searching range to a frequency operated by a system manager, thereby decreasing an initializing time to minimize user's waiting time after applying a power of the mobile phone. CONSTITUTION: When a user boots a mobile terminal with a new USIM(Universal Subscriber Identity Module) card, the mobile terminal checks whether a renewal-flag of the USIM card is set. If not, an operational frequency code recorded on the USM card is read out. If the operational frequency code is different with a preset operational frequency code in a flash memory of the mobile terminal, preset contents are renewed by storing the operational frequency code of the USIM in the flash memory. After setting the renewal flag of the USIM card, a cell search is processed with renewal information stored in the flash memory. If a user boots with the same USIM card, a cell search is executed by using frequency information preset in the current flash memory.
