PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance work efficiency of a user and to enhance a performance by reading only necessary image data. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a placing unit on which an original is placed; a reading unit 121 which reads the image of the original placed on the placing unit as image data in the unit of one page; an embedded information determining unit 122 which determines whether embedded information has been embedded in the read image data; an embedded information extracting unit 123 which extracts the embedded information from the image data when the embedded information is embedded, and acquires the page number of a reading unnecessary page on the basis of the extracted embedded information; and a page number determining unit 124 which determines, when a next original is placed, whether the order of pages from the first original in the next original matches with the acquired page number of the reading unnecessary page.
