PURPOSE: A process of preparing the subject compound suitable for a lubricator and a lubricating agent in various formulations such as tablets, capsules and creams of medicines is provided which produces high purity medical magnesium stearate at low cost in high yields. CONSTITUTION: The medical magnesium stearate is prepared by reaction of stearic acid with 10 to 20% sodium hydroxide aqueous solution at 60 to 80°C and reacting the reactant with 10 to 20% sulfuric acid aqueous solution. The obtained magnesium stearate is hard fine powder, excellent in lubricating properties and suitable for a base material of medicines.
