<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a food useful for reducing total plasma cholesterol level in mammalian blood and particularly to provide a method for reducing the cholesterol level by using a water-soluble cellulose ether. <P>SOLUTION: The present invention provides a method for reducing the cholesterol level in mammalian blood by administering a water-soluble cellulose ether thereto. The cellulose ether has viscosity, measured as a 2% aqueous solution at 20°C, of at least about 35 cps. Oral administration is preferred, and, in one embodiment, the high viscosity water-soluble cellulose ether is hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, contained in a nutritious foodstuff. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
