This printing apparatus is provided with: first and second supply rollers that supply a pair of ink ribbons; first and second winding-up rollers that wind up the pair of ink ribbons that have been withdrawn from the first and second supply rollers and that pass through a printing position; and a roller driving section that rotates the first and second winding-up rollers. The roller driving section has a rotation driving apparatus in which a rotation shaft is rotatable in forward and reverse directions, a first transmission mechanism that transmits only the forward rotation of the rotation shaft to the first winding-up roller, and a second transmission mechanism that transmits only the reverse rotation of the rotation shaft to the second winding-up roller.
