PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inter-vehicle distance control system and method for preventing a collision danger with a front vehicle, by guiding steering input of a driver so that a traffic lane change in one's own vehicle to the safe direction can be performed, when there is a danger of colliding with a preceding front vehicle or a stopping vehicle, in inter-vehicle distance control.SOLUTION: This inter-vehicle distance control system includes a front sensing sensor for acquiring information on the front vehicle, side rear sensing sensors for acquiring side rear vehicle information on a vehicle of traveling on right and left traffic lanes, an inter-vehicle distance control unit for determining the avoiding direction for changing a traffic lane from detecting data of the side rear sensing sensors when determining that collision avoidance with the front vehicle by braking input of the driver is impossible from the detecting data of the front sensing sensor, and a steering control unit for guiding the traffic lane change to the avoiding direction by the steering input of the driver, by assisting steering wheel operation force of the driver by receiving input of avoiding directional information determined by the inter-vehicle distance control unit. |
