PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aromatic amine from an aromatic compound, oxygen and an amination agent through a chlorinated aromatic compound and a hydroxyaromatic compound, capable of forming an aromatic amine in high yield and enabling the effective recycling of hydrogen chloride gas generated in the chlorination step and/or hydrolysis step. SOLUTION: The method for the production of an aromatic amine contains a chlorination step to obtain a chlorinated aromatic compound and hydrogen chloride from an aromatic compound and chlorine; a hydrolysis step to obtain hydroxyaromatic compound and hydrogen chloride from the chlorinated aromatic compound and water; an oxidation step to obtain chlorine by reacting hydrogen chloride formed by the chlorination step and/or hydrolysis step with oxygen and recycle at least a part of the chlorine to the chlorination step; and an amination step to react the hydroxyaromatic compound obtained by the hydrolysis step with an amination agent.
