PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet carrying device having simple construction for carrying a plurality of sheets different in width with their centers aligned while using a skewing correcting mechanism with good assembling efficiency and high reliability for correcting their skewing, and to provide a recording device. SOLUTION: The sheet carrying device comprises reference members 4, 401, 402 having reference faces for restricting the side end positions of the sheets 1 to be carried in a specified carrying direction, and carrying means 3, 6 for carrying the sheets in inclination to the carrying direction to approach the reference faces so that the sheet side ends abut on the reference faces. Besides, moving means 204b, 403 are provided for selectively moving the reference members with a cassette mounted thereon so that the reference members are located at positions corresponding to the widths of the sheets stored in the cassette 2.
